One of the World Oldest Churches!

The Coptic Orthodox Church is one of the most ancient churches in the world. It was established in the first century in Egypt by St. Mark the Evangelist, author of the Gospel that bears his name. It has maintained its Orthodox Christian faith, passing traditions down through generations, while preserving Apostolic doctrines and patterns of worship.

St. Mark

The Apostle of Jesus Christ

Saint Mark was one of Christ’s seventy apostles and one of the authors of the four Gospels. He arrived in Alexandria, Egypt in 48 AD and established the Coptic Orthodox Curch of Alexandria. He is considered the first pope of the church, he then appointed the first bishop named "Anianus", who later became the second patriarch of the Coptic Church. Since then, the Church has been ordaining bishops, priests, and deacons, with each generation passing on the responsibility to the next until this day.

The Orthodox Faith

What does Orthodox mean?

The word “Orthodox” is divided into “ortho-“ which means straight, and “doxa” meaning opinion or faith, concluding to the "straight faith". We believe that the Orthodox Church has always stayed with the same original doctrines, which was from the beginning, preached by the apostles, and was kept by the ancient church fathers in their writings.
